Do you need to apply for an ETIAS if you’re a Honduran passport holder? If so, where can you visit once you have that authorization and what does it entitle you to?
Let’s find out!
ETIAS Visa Waiver for Honduran Citizens
The European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) is an electronic authorization system that applies to all countries within the Schengen Zone, an area that spans 26 European nations. If you reside in the Schengen Zone, you don’t need to worry about the ETIAS and can travel freely without it.
If you live in Honduras or around 60 other countries, you will need to apply for an ETIAS before you visit a Schengen Zone. Once you have it, you will be able to visit all countries that have signed the Schengen Agreement, which includes some of the most-visited nations in the world, including France, Italy, Spain, and Germany.
You can complete an ETIAS application online. It usually takes just a few minutes and only requires a secure internet connection, a valid Honduran passport, and a credit or debit card to pay a nominal fee.
Once you submit the application, your details will be checked against several international security databases. If you are deemed to be a high-risk, a manual check will be conducted and you may be refused entry. If there are no such concerns—as is the case with most applicants—authorization will be granted within 72 hours.
Do Honduran Citizens Need an ETIAS Visa Waiver for Europe?
The Schengen Zone only covers 26 European countries. It doesn’t cover nations like Russia, the United Kingdom, and Georgia. It also doesn’t cover Ireland, even though Ireland is part of the European Union.
One of the mistakes that travelers make is to assume that all European countries operate under similar border controls and allow international travelers to move freely. That’s just not the case.
In some cases, an ETIAS will allow you to drop into a major nation and then visit all bordering nations. For instance, if you visit Germany, you’re a long train ride or car journey away from countries like the Netherlands, France, Belgium, and Luxembourg, all of which are in the Schengen Zone.
However, if you land in Greece, there are no bordering countries that have signed the Schengen Agreement.
Where Do Hondurans Go on Vacation?
Hondurans seem to have Indonesia in their sights when it comes to dream vacation destinations. And they’re not alone, as the islands of Indonesia have become a tourist hotspot in the last few years. When it comes to actual annual travel, though, destinations like El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica tend to top the list.
Not only are these countries nearby, but they all offer visa-free access to Honduran passport holders.
Cuba, Jamaica, and Mexico are also a short trek away from Honduras, but all of these countries require either a visa or—in the case of Cuba—a tourist card, and that makes travel a little more complicated.
Can Honduran Citizens Travel to the US Without a Visa?
Hondurans cannot travel to the United States without a visa. They are not alone, though, as the same is true for most countries in Central and South America.
Which Countries Can Hondurans Visit Without a Visa?
The United Kingdom is more open to international travel than the United States, and Hondurans don’t need a visa to visit the nation. They can also travel visa-free to many countries in Central and South America, as well as popular tourist destinations like the UAE, Turkey, South Korea, and Australia.
