If you reside in Antigua and Barbuda, and you’re hoping to travel to the Schengen Zone after the end of 2022, you will need to apply for ETIAS authorization. On the plus side, it’s a very quick and easy application process.

ETIAS Visa Waiver for Antiguan and Barbudan Citizens

First introduced in 2016, the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) will prescreen travelers to ensure that they are not a risk to countries or individuals within the Schengen Zone. Antigua and Barbuda is one of 60 countries that will be part of the ETIAS and all of its residents must apply before they can visit.

You can apply online with a valid email address and passport. You will be asked a few simple questions about your travel plans and will then need to pay a small €7 fee (there is no fee for travelers under 18).

The ETIAS process should take fewer than 10 minutes to complete. Your details will be checked against international security databases and if there are no red flags, you will receive authorization by email.

Once you have an ETIAS visa waiver, you can use your Antigua and Barbuda passport to visit all countries within the Schengen Zone for up to 90 days within a 180-day period. It remains valid for 3 years but as it is tied to your passport, it will expire sooner if your passport expires.

What Can the ETIAS Visa Waiver be Used For?

The main purpose of the ETIAS is to facilitate travel. It safeguards the internal borders of the Schengen Zone without overcomplicating the travel process.

It means, for instance, that you can land in Germany, spend a few weeks there, and then hop on a train to visit France, Austria, or any other country that has signed the Schengen Agreement. As long as you don’t spend more than 90 days there within any 180-day period, you’ll be free to explore.

The ETIAS visa waiver is also used for business purposes and even education, although as it is only valid for 90 days, it doesn’t give you much opportunity to study.
